Strap junction
Add to album

This bronze strap junction for horse harness was found at the site of the Roman fort at Newstead in Roxburghshire. It was used sometime between 80 and 180 AD.

The strap junction is cruciform in shape, with two small and two large bosses forming the petals. It is in poor condition.

Leather on harnesses rarely survives, but the metal fittings and ornaments are often preserved. Strap junctions come in many forms, some quite elaborate and decorative.
