Possible charm stone

This piece of amber, carved into the shape of a heart, was found in Aberdeenshire. It may have been used as a charm stone, probably within the last 500 years.

Object

Amber, ultimately from the Baltic, has been valued in Scotland over the millennia for its beauty and its allegedly magical properties. It is electrostatic, and this probably gave rise to various beliefs about its powers.
