Strap junction
Add to album

This bronze strap junction was found at Easter Eildon Hill in Roxburghshire. It was used, probably on a horse harness, sometime between 100 BC and 300 AD.

The central circular depression where the two oval loops join perhaps originally had an enamel boss over a rivet, although no trace of enamel or a fixing rivet survives.

Leather on harnesses rarely survives, but the metal fittings and ornaments are often preserved. Strap junctions come in many forms, some quite elaborate and decorative.
