Bracelet
Add to album

This gold bracelet was found in Berwickshire. It was probably imported from Ireland between 950 and 750 BC. Such bracelets were clearly made for ostentatious display.

The penannular bracelet is made of a solid rod of gold, with hollow, cup-shaped ends.

Jewellery functioned as a symbol of power and prestige in many periods. Some items, such as this one, were worn to confirm the status and wealth of its aristocratic owner.
