Add to album

This gold bracelet is one of two found in a stone bowl during ploughing on a farm at Hillhead in Caithness. It was buried between 950 and 750 BC.

The plain, penannular bracelet with evenly expanded terminals is of a type also found in bronze examples at this period.

Some hoards were buried with rare and unusual objects, probably as offerings to the gods. In the late Bronze Age period, a range of objects were included in these votive hoards. People or tribes may have competed to make the richest offerings.
