Finger ring; disc with swivelling ring
Add to album

This bronze finger ring and bronze disc with a swivelling ring were found at Forfar in Angus and at Seamill Fort in Ayrshire. Both were probably used as amulets sometime between 100 BC and 200 AD.

Both objects have triskele designs, a shape which seems to have had religious significance over many centuries.

Magic and superstition were an integral part of everyday life. The number three has long had a magical and religious significance. The popularity of triskele designs, with its three-part decoration, is one example of its physical expression on objects.
