From Middlebie, Dumfriesshire
This bronze strap junction was found at Middlebie in Dumfriesshire. It is part of a hoard of 28 items, mainly objects for use on horse harnesses, deposited sometime in the first two centuries AD.
The strap junction is in good condition, although corrosion has enlarged one of the openwork sections. There is little sign of wear.
Leather on harnesses rarely survives, but the metal fittings and ornaments are often preserved. Strap junctions come in many forms, some quite elaborate and decorative.
