Hoard
Add to album

These objects were found in a hoard in a moss near Middlebie in Dumfriesshire. They were deposited sometime in the first two centuries AD.

Twenty-eight objects were found in the hoard, most parts of horse harnesses but also including a guard from a sword hilt. Some of the objects have enamelled decoration.

Most of the objects in the Middlebie hoard are typical lowland Scotland metalwork of the period, with parallels found at the native site of Traprain Law and the Roman fort at Newstead.
