Neck ring

This bronze neck ring was found at Stitchill in Roxburghshire. It is an expensive and accomplished item of jewellery, probably made in the West Midlands of England, sometime between 0 and 200 AD.

The neck ring, of a type called a torc or collar, is made of beaten sheet bronze. It is hinged at the front and back. On either side of the five-sectioned front hinge are panels of relief decoration attached by four boss-headed rivets.
