This ceramic cup was found at Gairneybank Farm at Kinross. It is an example of a particularly fine pot, made between 2000 and 1500 BC.

The cup has four small handles. It is decorated all over its surface with cord impressions and 'maggots'.

Most pottery in Scotland before the 1st millennium AD was produced without using sophisticated or complex means. Production was generally small in scale. But high quality handmade pots, such as this one, suggest perhaps some limited specialisation occurred.
