These three objects were used as amulets. The smaller stone pendant and black gemstone are from a hoard found at Monquhitter in Aberdeenshire containing amulets of different forms. The larger imitation jet pendant is from Traprain Law in East Lothian.

All three objects resemble jet, an expensive and highly prized material which is found only in Yorkshire in Britain.

Magic and superstition were an integral part of everyday life. Charms and amulets were commonly carried, although sometimes it is difficult to identify them as such or interpret their symbolism.
