Dagger blade

This dagger blade was found in a cist at Auchterhouse in Angus. It was probably used sometime between 2050 and 1700 BC for hunting, or for combat, or both.

The remains of an ox horn handle and rivets also survive. The tip of the blade is damaged.

Daggers were probably used to finish off large mammals such as deer and boar after they had been chased and speared. This dagger would have been a prestigious possession.
