Two pots, a flint arrowhead and an incomplete burnt bone pin

These two pots, the flint arrowhead and the incomplete burnt bone pin were found in two graves at Foulford at Rathven in Cullen district in Moray. The finds became mixed on discovery, so it is not known to which cremation the grave goods belong.

The larger urn has a modest collar and a shoulder midway down the body; it is heavily restored. The collar and rim bevel are decorated with impressed plaited cord. The smaller pot has a collar-like bulge at the shoulder and is undecorated.

The larger urn was found inverted in a pit, resting on a stone slab and covered by another slab. The smaller urn was upright and unprotected. Both contained cremated human bones. The pin was probably a shroud fastener, and has passed through the pyre.
