Knife blade of bronze
Add to album

This bronze knife blade was found with two gold discs in a cist burial at Barnhill at Broughty Ferry in Angus. The grave goods show that the Scottish elite adopted fashions current in southern England during the 2nd millennium B.C.

The knife blade was attached to its handle by rivets. There are faint traces of the handle. The blade is corroded and imperfect on the edges.

The grave goods from the high status burial at Barnhill copy fashions current in southern England. The accompanying gold discs were probably fancy covers for button-like dress accessories, and close parallels with finds from Wessex in England exist.
