Beakers

Beakers were fancy pots for drink or food. These examples were found in graves at Dairsie in Fife and Buckie in Banffshire, and date from between 2400 and 1800 BC.

Best ware beaker found in a burial at Buckie

Beakers were adopted as a prestigious Continental novelty from around 2500 BC along with other novelties. The finest beakers are usually found in burials, where they were deposited, probably full, as gifts to accompany the deceased to the afterlife.
