Two pieces of iron handles and an iron double hook
Add to album

These two pieces of iron handles and an iron double hook are part of a hoard of native and Roman objects placed in a cauldron and deposited in Carlingwark Loch in Kirkcudbrightshire sometime between 80 and 200 AD.

The handles are bent and incomplete.

Several large metalwork hoards with Roman and native objects have been found in Scotland. They are sometimes interpreted as a metalworker's or salesman's savings, but their placement in lochs, where recovery would be difficult, suggest a religious motive.
