Four bronze spearheads
Add to album

These four bronze spearheads were found together at Clett-feora at Carinish on North Uist in the Outer Hebrides. They were buried, probably as a gift to the gods, sometime between 950 and 750 BC.

The leaf-shaped spearheads have rivets on the sockets to attach them to organic handles. One is now in three pieces, and the tips are damaged on two of the others.

Bronze-tipped spears were part of the equipment of the Late Bronze Age elite warrior. They are sometimes found in hoards, placed in inaccessible or watery areas, where they were probably ritual deposits.
