Punches or chisels of bronze

These four punches or chisels are part of a hoard containing weapons, tools and ornaments deposited at Glentrool in Kirkcudbrightshire between 1450 and 1200 BC. Unlike many of the objects found in the hoard, they were a local product.

Bronze punch or chisel from Glentrool

The origins of, or inspirations for, the objects in the Glentrool hoard vary. Some represent southern English fashions while others were part of a local tradition. The hoard was deposited in a remote hilly area, almost certainly as a gift to the gods.
