The dirk was an all-purpose implement which evolved into the medieval dagger. This example was found at Gretna in Dumfriesshire. It dates from between 1500 and 1200 BC.

The dirk has two rivet holes, with preserved rivets.

Warriors had a major social role in their society and displayed their status through fancy weapons.
