Dagger or knife blade
Add to album

This bronze blade for a dagger or knife was found in a cist burial at Drumlanrick near Callander in Perthshire. It dates from between 2250 and 1950 BC.

The blade was attached to its handle by three rivets, two of which survive.

The distinction between Early Bronze Age objects called daggers and knives is somewhat arbitrary, with the term dagger generally applied to longer examples. They are sometimes found in wealthy graves, particularly from central Scotland.
