From Denhead, Perthshire
This bronze spearhead is from Denhead in Perthshire. It was a prestige item, designed to proclaim social status rather than to be used as a practical weapon. The spearhead dates from between 1150 and 750 BC.
The spearhead is one of a type known as a 'massive' spearhead. It has half-moon perforations in the blade. The spearhead is broken near of these openings.
The use of ostentatiously 'bigger and better' weapons and tools was an important way of emphasising status during the Bronze Age.
