Axeheads

These three stone axeheads were found at Kirklauchline in Wigtownshire, at Gleniron at Glenluce in Wigtownshire, and at Ormiston in Fife. They are of the type of axe which may have been used to fell trees. They were used between 3800 and 1800 BC.

Medium-sized stone axe from Gleniron, Glenluce, Wigtownshire

The transformation from a mobile society based on hunting and gathering to a fixed settlement where crops were grown was a major change. New tools were made for agriculture, the diet of people changed, and new objects and beliefs developed.
