Knife

This slate knife was found at West Burrafirth in Shetland. It was used sometime between 3300 BC and 0.

The knife is shaped to provide a sharp blade and stone handle. It is damaged.

Where possible, people used whatever stone was available locally. Since Scotland has so many different types of stone, the same object was often made from different types of stone in different areas. Here local slate was used to manufacture a knife.
