Sandstone club

This sandstone club was found in Shetland. It was probably used for killing seals, sometime between 3500 BC and 1100 AD.

Stone club, possibly used in hunting seals, from Shetland

Seals provided a source of food for people living in coastal regions. In the past, as now, clubs were used when hunting seals. Their simple shape makes them hard to date precisely.
