This officer's jacket is of the Stirlingshire Yeomanry Cavalry - a part-time rural mounted force. Such units, recruited from local landowners and their tenants, were used as a means of policing and control.

In April 1820, this regiment was called out to disperse a small group of armed men who had marched from Glasgow in a supposed attempt to seize artillery stored at the Carron ironworks near Falkirk.
