This sabre and scabbard was presented to Corporal James Chrystal in 1829 by the officers of the Stirlingshire Yeomanry for his skill as a swordsman.

In April 1820, the Stirlingshire Yeomanry was called out to disperse a small group of armed men who had marched from Glasgow in a supposed attempt to seize artillery stored at the Carron ironworks near Falkirk.
