Knapsack of the 10th regiment, North British MilitiaThis canvas knapsack is of the 10th Regiment of the North British Militia. It dates from 1798. The front of the knapsack is decorated with the regimental motif of a crown and thistle. The text around the edge reads, 'Tenth Regiment. N.B. Militia'. The government abolished part-time volunteer units in 1808 and introduced an additional force called the Local Militia, over which it had more control.
