Earthenware teapot
Add to album

This teapot was made in the late 19th century at W. & J.A. Bailey's pottery at Alloa in Clackmannanshire. In its heyday the pottery at Alloa was said to make 40,000 teapots a week.

The oval teapot has floral decoration and is marked with W. & J.A. Bailey's monogram and crest mark.

Alloa was an important coal mining centre, and a pottery (and eventually a glassworks) were established by the 1790s to take advantage of the abundant fuel and locally available clay. The pottery at Alloa finally closed in 1907.
