Jug, made at Kirkcaldy, Fife

This earthenware jug was made at Robert Heron & Sons' pottery at Kirkcaldy in Fife. It dates from the second half of the 19th century.

The jug is relief moulded with swans and impressed 'RH FP' (for Robert Heron, Fife Pottery).

Heron's Fife Pottery is perhaps best known for its brightly painted, highly fashionable and expensive Wemyss Ware. Wemyss Ware continued to be produced in Kirkcaldy, by a variety of decorators, until the factory closed in 1930.
