Earthenware plate

This plate was made in mid 19th century at Robert Heron & Sons' pottery at Kirkcaldy in Fife.

The plate is transfer-printed in blue with a pattern known as 'Temple'. The plate is marked 'R H FP'.

Heron's Fife Pottery is perhaps best known for its brightly painted, highly fashionable and expensive Wemyss Ware. The characteristic freely-painted decoration was introduced by Karel Nekola, a Czech who arrived in Kirkcaldy in 1883.
