Earthenware wall vase in the shape of a frog
Add to album

This earthenware wall vase in the shape of a frog, was made in the late 19th century at Peter Gardner's Dunmore Pottery in Stirlingshire.

The blue glazed vase shows a frog with a low flat body, lying on its belly with its jaws open. Its front legs are applied, the back legs moulded.

Peter Gardner took over his father's small redware pottery in 1860 and immediately began to develop new ranges of fashionable wares. The pottery was supported by the local landowners the Earl and Countess of Dunmore.
