Figure of Soutar Johnnie

This is an unglazed red clay figure of Soutar Johnnie from Robert Burn's poem 'Tam O'Shanter'. It dates from the 19th century. A figure of Tam O'Shanter was also made, both figures being produced in glazed and unglazed versions.

The figure shows Soutar Johnnie seated on an armless chair with his feet resting on the rectangular plinth which holds the chair.
