Curling stone

This granite curling stone with metal handgrip dates from the late 19th century and is one of a pair of curling stones formerly owned by the Reverend Robert Stevenson of Forfar in Angus.

Curling was the winter sport of mid-Victorian Scotland. Its summer equivalents were quoiting for the working classes and bowling for the middle classes. Curling was played by all kinds of people, particularly in the country.
