This leather handball, known as the 'Jedburgh ba' ', dates from 1914.

The ball is made of four roughly equal quarter segments sewn together. The 'stuffing' hole is sewn together with an external ladder stitch.

Violent Ba' games were once held all over Scotland. Ba' games survive today in various places in the Borders and in Kirkwall in Orkney.
