Bottle

This glass bottle with screw and washer stopper was found in 1981 at Swineabby Farm in Blackburn in West Lothian. It dates from the 19th century. The bottle is for aerated water and was produced for the Edinburgh firm Henry Ltd.

The bottle has the details of the manufacturer moulded on the front.

In Victorian times, advertising grew and was used by manufacturers as a way of appealing to their customers. Brand goods were developed and certain types of container were recycled. These included bottles which were a useful means of advertising products.
