This glass wine bottle was given to the Museum of Scotland by the Incorporation of Goldsmiths. It dates from the mid 19th century.

The shoulders of the bottle are engraved with a band of 'celtic' interlace and four shields of arms. The arms are the saltire, the Incorporation of Goldsmiths, a thistle and the arms of the City of Edinburgh - a three-towered castle.

Goldsmiths worked in gold and silver and were usually members of the Incorporation of Hammermen (those who used hammers in their trade). Edinburgh, however, had its own Incorporation of Goldsmiths.
