Jug, Scottish International Exhibition, Edinburgh, 1890

This small glass jug is a souvenir from the Scottish International Exhibition held in Edinburgh in 1890.

The jug has a plain bulbous body with a small lip and plain circular base. It is engraved 'To Mother from the Exhibition 1890'. The engraved text is surrounded by engraved fern leaves.

Edinburgh hosted international exhibitions in 1886, 1890 and 1907. These were large events where Scottish products were displayed alongside international exhibits. At some exhibition stands small gifts could be engraved with personal messages.
