Box of pencils, made in Germany

This box of slate pencils was used in schools for children to write with. It was made in Germany in the late 19th or early 20th century.

The design on the box features the Union Jack and the words 'The Britannia Box of Slate Pencils'.

The slate and slate pencil were a cheap and reusable writing medium for schools.
