Pen ink ink case

This leather case was used to carry quill pens and ink for writing letters. It dates from around 1882.

Th case is stamped, 'T.Clark / Ed. R' and 'I bought this inkhorn from Tel el Kebir. Oct. 1882'.

Basic writing materials were pen, ink and paper, but quill cutters, sand dredges, and writing sets were all part of the letter-writer's equipment. Writing cases were handy for the traveller.
