Embroidered picture, 'The finding of Moses'

This embroidered picture, entitled 'The Finding of Moses', was made by Mary Ann Smith of Aberdeen in 1837.

The picture is embroidered in coloured silk thread and chenille in long and short looped stitches. The sky and faces are painted. The picture illustrates the biblical story of the finding of the Jewish baby, Moses, in a basket floating on a river.
