Banner associated with James VI and I

This banner, known as the 'Hay Banner', was probably made for the visit to Scotland in 1617 of James VI & I.

The banner shows the Royal Arms of Great Britain as used in Scotland, and a Latin inscription which translates as 'The shame be his who thinks ill of it', the motto of the Order of the Garter.
