Charmstone

This smooth, roundish quartzite pebble is from Dubford at Old Machar in Aberdeenshire. It is thought to have been used as a charm.

Quartz is often found in prehistoric burials and may have had a ritual significance, a number of painted examples all coming from broch sites.
