This is a wax seal of the Chapter of the Cathedral of Ross at Rosemarkie at Fortrose in Ross and Cromarty. The matrix used to produce the seal dates from the 14th century. It was in use as late as the 17th century.

The matrix shows St Peter and St Boniface standing side by side, the former with keys and a book, the latter dressed as a bishop in the act of blessing.

The seals fixed to church documents were usually made of beeswax, softened by heat and attached with a cord or tag to a document. A mould (matrix) was used to make the impression in soft wax.
