Seal impression, from seal matrix of Cistercian Abbey of Coupar Angus

This wax seal impression is made from the silver seal matrix of the Cistercian Abbey of Coupar Angus. The matrix dates from the 16th century.

The impression shows the Blessed Virgin seated, holding a branch of lilies and supporting the infant Jesus standing on a bench beside her. Below is an abbot, kneeling in the attitude of prayer and holding a crosier. On either side is an armorial shield.
