Brass seal matrix

This brass seal matrix is of the 15th Regiment of the Orange Lodge. The Orange Lodge was formed just before the Irish Rebellion of 1798 and was resolutely behind the government in suppressing the revolt.

The matrix depicts an equestrian figure with the inscription 'Wm III'. The legend around the rim reads '15th Regt. Orange Lodge'.

Opposing Irish political and religious standpoints were transplanted to Scotland. Such differences were expressed through membership of the Loyal Orange Institution or Catholic associations.
