Seal matrix, of Burgh of Arbroath

This lead seal matrix of the Burgh of Arbroath dates from the 13th century.

The circular matrix depicts the murder of St Thomas à Becket. The four conspirators, the first with his sword raised, are shown behind the saint who is kneeling before an altar. Out of the altar a figure is emerging, holding a chrism and a cross.
