This is the front of a gold mourning ring commemorating Jane Falla who died on 29 January 1810, aged 76.

The front of the ring has a curved, oblong bezel which has a broad border of black enamel hatching and is set with a glass covering plaited hair.

At funerals in the 18th and 19th century, wealthier families distributed rings and lockets made from the hair of the deceased, or engraved with the name and date.
