Cab-driver's table of fares, used in Edinburgh

This table of cab-driver's fares was used in Edinburgh in the early 19th century.

The paper table of fares was kept within a protective tin box, marked with the cab-driver's number.

The number of cabs and levels of fares were regulated by bye-laws introduced by the city authorities.
