Pen & ink case

This plain leather case was used to carry quill pens and ink for writing letters.

The case has a metal locking mechanism.

Basic writing materials were pen, ink and paper, but quill cutters, sand dredges, and writing sets were all part of the letter-writer's equipment. Writing cases were handy for the traveller.
