Door plate from Mungo Park's house, Peebles

This brass door plate is from the house of Mungo Park (1771-1805) when he was the only surgeon at Peebles in the Borders. It dates from 1800.

Brass door plate from the house of Mungo Park when he was a surgeon in Peebles from October 1800 to January 1805

Mungo Park was born at Foulshiels in the Peeblesshire hills. He had a passion for botany and made collecting expeditions to Africa in 1795-7 and 1805. He was drowned in the Niger River.
